Officiating FAQ’s

How old do you need to be in order to become an ice hockey official?

We recommend that all new officials be at least 12 years old before they start officiating. At this age, you will be a Level 1 official and capable of officiating in Mite and Squirt games under USA Hockey. This age recommendation is in place to insure our new officials are not overwhelmed by the pressure (and enjoyment!) of being an Ice Hockey official.

How do I get games as a new official?

As a completely registered Level 1 official with USA Hockey, you are eligible to officiate at the Mite and Squirt level. Being completely registered DOES NOT GUARANTEE that you will receive game assignments. Each official is indiviually responsible for finding their own game assignments.
